|| PRE-ALGEBRA ||

|| LOWEST COMMON MULTIPLE ||

FOR AGES 10 AND 11

POINTS TO REMEMBER :

Common Multiples are  many. They are useful when multiplying and dividing fractions. For ease the Lowest Common Multiple - LCM, is used throught the math.

* When finding an LCM, use only multipliers those are whole numbers.

** Be aware of all the numbers you are finding an LCM for.

*** Zero is not considered an LCM.

Example:

Find the LCM of 2 and 5.

The multiples of 2 are: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, etc.

The multiples of 5 are: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc.

The common multiples of both 2 and 5 are: 10, 20, 30, 40, etc.

10 is the lowest of them.

So, the LCM - Lowest Common Multiple of both 2 and 5 is : 10.

Example:

Find the LCM of 2, 3, and 5.

The multiples of 2 are: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, etc.

The multiples of 3 are: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, etc.

The multiples of 5 are: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, etc.

The common multiples of 2,3, and 5 are: 30, 60, etc.

30 is the lowest of them.

So, the LCM - Lowest Common Multiple of 2, 3, and 5 is : 30.
